German Indoor Lacrosse future plans

After the successful participation of a German team at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC) the national team staff and Indoor Lacrosse coordinator were working towards setting up a “future concept” for Indoor Lacrosse in Germany. The goal is to support growth in quantity while maintaining and growing the quality as well. Bases of the concept involve the indoor leagues and the national team. While both buy in groth of quantity and quality the leagues are meant to primarily support the growth (quantity) while the national team program will focus on inproving the quality.

The motto of the concept is:

“Indoor Lacrosse for and by German athletes and coaches”

To fulfill this motto we set milestones in defined timeframes which are based on the main indoor events European Boxlacrosse Championships (EBLC) and World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC).
The following targets were defined:

Until EBLC 2017 in Finnland:

organization of a men’s indoor lacrosse league with min. 6 participating teams
builtup of a women’s indoor lacrosse league.
Min. 25% (min. 1 coach) of the coaching staff of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.).
All offence, defence and transition players of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.). Participation of external players (such as non active participants in German indoor lacrosse events) will be waived. An exeption will apply to goaltenders as we are currently facing a lack of experience that can not be overcome in the next 2 years. However, to improve the quality on the goalie position 2 open development camps will be held specifically for goalies each year.

Until WILC 2019 in Canada:

organization of a men’s indoor lacrosse league with min. 10 participating teams.
organization of a men’s indoor lacrosse league with min. 6 participating teams.
Min. 50% (min. 2 coach) of the coaching staff of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.).
All players of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.). Participation of external players (such as non active participants in German indoor lacrosse events) will be waived.
Built up of a men’s German U-19 national team program and organisation of two open youth specific camps. selection of the players will follow the ruling in the senior national team.

Until the EBLC 2021:

organization of a men’s indoor lacrosse league with min. 14 participating teams.
organization of a men’s indoor lacrosse league with min. 8 participating teams.
Min. 75% (min. 3 coach) of the coaching staff of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.).
All players of the national team should have permanent German residency and participate at German indoor events (league, national team, etc.). Participation of external players (such as non active participants in German indoor lacrosse events) will be waived.
Participation of a men’s German U-19 national team program at an international event.

On a longterm basis the goal is to have a broad spectrum of coaches and players with a competitive league and national team in international comparison. The success of the future concept mainly depends on the intrest and participation of the players. Thats why we ask for your support by participating in German Indoor Lacrosse events to meet the set goals.
