21st November 2016

To All German Lacrosse Hopefuls:

Guten Tag! My name is Matthew Bagley and I am the Head Coach of the German Senior Men’s National Lacrosse Team. I am delighted to inform you that Team Germany will be participating in the FIL World Championships in Manchester, England from the 12th–21st July 2018. This letter is intended to provide all prospective domestic and international players information not only about the trial dates, but also the qualifications needed to represent Germany during this tournament.

The coaches and staff are delighted to inform you that the first Open Trial will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 4th-5th February 2017 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Hans-Rosenthal Sportanlage, Kühler Weg 12, 14055 Berlin. The second will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 25th-26th February 2017 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the SC Frankfurt 1880, Feldgerichtstrasse 29, 60320 Frankfurt. The last Open Trial will occur on Saturday and Sunday, 11th-12th March 2017 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Lacrosseclub Rot-Weiß München von 1932 e.V., Grasweg 67a, 81373 Munich. These trials are for both domestic and international hopefuls. Players are only required to come to one of the trials, but may attend two or all three if they desire. It will cost €60.00 to participate in each one, with a reduced rate offered to those who apply early online at the DLaxV’s official website (www.dlaxv.de). From these Open Trials, a training squad of roughly 50 players will be taken forward and given the opportunity to earn a spot on the final roster for the World Games!

Team Germany players, whether living locally or abroad, will need to either hold a valid Deutschland passport or possess a Residence Permit allowing them to live in the Germany through the date of the next international tournament. In addition, these non-passport residents must also play in the domestic league as a member of a registered club. If these requirements are not met, then the player is not eligible to try out for the squad. Please note that there is no limit to the amount of passport holders who can trial for the team, as long as they meet the criteria listed above, although FIL rules only allow four non-passport holders to be selected for the final squad.

All European-based players are required to attend every Training Camp from now until the 2018 World Championships. However, all German hopefuls who are based overseas will need to make an alternative commitment to be considered for the final squad. If an international player makes the Training Squad, then their attendance will be required at two weekend camps held in Kassel, Germany over the spring and summer of 2017. However, if a player cannot make these dates, then they must attend a week tour of the United States with Team Germany to play a number of American NCAA Division I, II & III universities next October 2017. Please note that there will be similar obligations if the overseas player is chosen for the final squad in November 2017.

If you meet the criteria listed above and can manage the time commitments, then I hope to see you at one of the open trials. Good luck to everyone, and I look forward to working with you soon!

Sincerely,

Matthew Bagley
